Iran police toughen controls on women without hijab

According to local media, police in the city have intensified their attempts to target individuals who violate the hijab clothing code by launching a campaign known as "Noor," which is Persian for "light." Shortly after the 1979 Islamic revolution that overthrew Iran's shah, the government mandated that women adhere to the Islamic dress code. Women must cover their bodies and hair in public areas according to the hijab, or dress code.
