India expecting 3 million doses of Moderna, Pfizer vaccines by August

As India tries to expand its aggressive vaccination drive to prevent another surge of infections, it is expected that 3 to 4 million doses of the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccine shots are expected through the COVAX facility by August. COVAX which is led by the GAVI vaccine alliance and the World Health Organization (WHO) would be shipping it to India as part of donations from the organisation. Pfizer and Moderna have not commented as yet. GAVI and India's foreign ministry also did not reply to queries.


 


India has donated or sold more than 66 million doses of COVID-19 shots before a huge spike in infections forced it to divert all domestic output to inoculate its own people. The country has so far administered 358.1 million vaccine doses which amount to giving at least 1 dose to 31% of adult population. India mainly relies on Covishield vaccine and domestically developed shotCovaxin.
