Know How Artificial Intelligence is Improving Healthcare

As new innovation is emerging with a wide range of medical applications, AI contains the potential to have an impact in every step of a patient's experience. Apart from early detection it also provides rehabilitation and follow-ups

Let's take a look at the steps in the journey of the patient, and how AI is transforming it:

1. Prevention

Wearables and apps track the personal information regarding health, which could be used for future reference by AI technology to make personal health recommendations for each patient. We are already witnessing artificial intelligence tracking the glucose levels in blood for patients with diabetes to provide more personalized real-time health advice.

2. Early Detection

Many devices such as smartwatches, fitness trackers, biosensors can help monitor the heart rate and respiratory pattern. This could be used by health apps to notify users of any abnormalities before the condition gets critical. The wearables could have a huge impact for seniors to prevent falling as AI enabled bracelets or smart belts can help detection of early warning signs like hydration level, grip strength and muscle mass.

3. Doctor Visits

Several smart devices can also provide support to healthcare workers. Like the voice assistance technology that can help to transcribe clinical information, requiring less administrative support and thus giving more time on patients' care.

Experts are hoping that virtual assistants will also be available from the next decade

4. Test Results

Test results which were traditionally analyzed manually, could be made automated using pattern recognition with the help of AI. This will have a significant impact on testing infections.

5. Surgery / Hospital Visits

According to various researches conducted, it was proved that using robotics can help save lives. In fact in a study, where a robot assisted a kidney surgery, had 52% more success rate.

It can in addition help the healthcare workers with periodic tasks, like restocking supplies, transportation of medical equipment and disinfection of the patient's rooms, giving the healthcare workers more time to focus on their patients.
