A 5.2 magnitude earthquake strikes Assam - tremors felt in Meghalaya, Bangladesh

An earthquake of measuring a magnitude of Richter scale 5.2 was recorded in Goalpara in Assam on Wednesday morning at 8.45 a.m as confirmed by the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The epicentre of the earthquake was located 71km north of Tura in Meghalaya. Goalpara was located at 26.15 latitude and 90.28 longitudes on the seismic activity map indicated by NCS. The institute categorises the area as seismically 'very active', which makes them prone to earthquakes.

The tremors of the earthquake were felt as far as Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, and both North and South Dinajpur in West Bengal, said locals. Tremors were reportedly felt in Bangladesh as well. There have not been any reports about casualties and extent damage in Assam is still unknown. People in the districts of Lower Assam, including Guwahati and Meghalaya ran out of their homes in panic. An earthquake of 6.4 Richter scale had hit the area in April.

ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಭೂಕಂಪಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ ಕೇಂದ್ರ (ಎನ್‌ಸಿಎಸ್) ದೃ confirmed ಪಡಿಸಿದಂತೆ ಬುಧವಾರ ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ 8.45 ಕ್ಕೆ ಅಸ್ಸಾಂನ ಗೋಲ್‌ಪಾರಾದಲ್ಲಿ ರಿಕ್ಟರ್ ಸ್ಕೇಲ್ 5.2 ರ ತೀವ್ರತೆಯ ಭೂಕಂಪನ ದಾಖಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಭೂಕಂಪದ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಬಿಂದು ಮೇಘಾಲಯದ ತುರಾದಿಂದ ಉತ್ತರಕ್ಕೆ 71 ಕಿ.ಮೀ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಎನ್‌ಸಿಎಸ್ ಸೂಚಿಸಿದ ಭೂಕಂಪನ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆ ನಕ್ಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗೋಲ್‌ಪರಾ 26.15 ಅಕ್ಷಾಂಶ ಮತ್ತು 90.28 ರೇಖಾಂಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿತ್ತು. ಇನ್ಸ್ಟಿಟ್ಯೂಟ್ ಈ ಪ್ರದೇಶವನ್ನು ಭೂಕಂಪನದಿಂದ 'ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಸಕ್ರಿಯ' ಎಂದು ವರ್ಗೀಕರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ, ಇದು ಭೂಕಂಪಗಳಿಗೆ ಗುರಿಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ಭೂಕಂಪದ ನಡುಕವು ಕೂಚ್ ಬೆಹಾರ್, ಜಲ್ಪೈಗುರಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಬಂಗಾಳದ ಉತ್ತರ ಮತ್ತು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ದಿನಾಜ್‌ಪುರದವರೆಗೆ ಅನುಭವಿಸಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಸ್ಥಳೀಯರು ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಬಾಂಗ್ಲಾದೇಶದಲ್ಲೂ ನಡುಕ ಉಂಟಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ವರದಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಸಾವುನೋವುಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ವರದಿಗಳು ಬಂದಿಲ್ಲ ಮತ್ತು ಅಸ್ಸಾಂನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಹಾನಿಯಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಇನ್ನೂ ತಿಳಿದಿಲ್ಲ. ಗುವಾಹಟಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮೇಘಾಲಯ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಲೋವರ್ ಅಸ್ಸಾಂ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಜನರು ಭಯಭೀತರಾಗಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಗಳಿಂದ ಹೊರಗೆ ಓಡಿಹೋದರು. ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ 6.4 ರಿಕ್ಟರ್ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದ ಭೂಕಂಪನ ಸಂಭವಿಸಿದೆ.
