6 years and still FIRs are being lodged on repealed section 66-A IT Act.
The Central Government of India has ordered all the states and Union Territories to immediately withdraw cases that are filed against Section 66-A of the Information Technology Act. Why? Because the section has been repealed back in 2015 by the Supreme Court.
This action comes after nine days after the Supreme Court stated that even though the section has been repealed there has been a large number of cases being filed even today.
The central government is already helping the Supreme Court to get rid of 745 cases that were still pending under various subordinate courts.
The Supreme Court stated that it has brought to their notice that FIRs are still being lodged based on the scrapped section. The central govt. has also asked the police force to stop lodging FIRs based on the scraped section
